DETAILS OF THE WORK AND THE ARTIST:
Eduard Ender was an Austrian painter. He was the son of Johann Ender and is known for his historical and genre works, among them Francis I in Cellini’s Studio; Shakespeare Reading “Macbeth” Before the Court of Elizabeth; La Corbeille de Mariage; and A Game of Chess, as well as a painting of the famous German scientist Alexander von Humboldt and his scientific travel companion Aimé Bonpland. Humboldt did not like the painting, as the scientific instruments were not depicted accurately.
